Life has been loud for a while
Why Prioritising Yourself Again Feels So Good
There comes a point in life when you realise just how much of it you’ve spent looking after everybody else.
You’ve built a family, supported the people you love, raised children, cared for parents, been there for your partner and probably spent years being the person everybody else could rely on.
But somewhere amongst all of that, you stopped being at the top of your own list.
And now, perhaps for the first time in a very long time, life is beginning to shift.
There’s a little more freedom.
1. For years, life has been about everyone else
Think about the last 20 or 30 years.
How many decisions have been made around somebody else?
What time the children needed collecting. What was for dinner. Who needed taking somewhere. What your partner was doing. Whether your parents needed help. What needed organising, buying, remembering or sorting out.
Even the walls of your home probably tell the story. There are photographs of the children everywhere. School photographs, graduation pictures, family holidays, perhaps photographs of your parents and grandparents.
There might be one photograph of you from your wedding day.
But where are you now?
For so many women, there hasn't been a conscious decision to stop prioritising themselves. It happens gradually. When so much of your time and energy is directed towards caring for other people, your own interests, confidence and identity can quietly take a back seat.
Until one day, life looks a little different...
2. You're entering a positive shift
Maybe the children have left home, or they simply don't need you in quite the same way anymore. Maybe your career has changed. Your relationship has entered a new stage. You've come through a significant life change. Or perhaps you've simply realised that you have more freedom now than you've had in years.
And suddenly you're thinking...
What do I actually enjoy?
What do I want to wear?
Where do I want to go?
What would I love to try?
What do I want this next part of my life to look like?
And then you recognising that caring about other people and prioritising yourself can exist at the same time.
You don't need to feel guilty for spending money on yourself.
You don't need an occasion to wear something beautiful.
You don't need somebody else's permission to try something new.
And you certainly don't need to justify doing something simply because you want to.
3. Rediscovering your femininity
We're not trying to look 25 again. We are just trying to rediscover the woman who has been there all along.
The woman in you who felt feminine without questioning whether she was "too old" for something, she who wore the dress, booked the trip, danced, laughed loudly and said yes because she wanted to.
That woman hasn't disappeared. Life has just been loud for a while.
Rediscovering your femininity isn't about trying to reverse ageing or becoming a younger version of yourself. It's embracing the woman you are now, with everything you've lived through contributing to her.
And sometimes that creates the same lightness you remember from your twenties..
4. Where a Boudoir by Blitz experience comes in
This is exactly why a Boudoir by Blitz experience can mean so much more than having beautiful photographs taken.
It's an opportunity to deliberately make yourself the focus.
In our discovery calls we don't focus on talking about and identifying the parts of your body you don't like, we focus on what you LOVE about YOURSELF! It could be (and mostly is with our boudoir ladies) your hair, your eyes, your smile.
It could be something about your body that makes you feel like you stand out or embraces your femininity, like your hips or your curves. We're not all about boobs and bum over here!!! (Unless you want it to be)
Throughout your experience, we'll guide you through everything. From the way you stand to the way you hold yourself, you don't need to arrive knowing how to pose or feeling completely confident.
That's part of the transformation.
Because when you begin seeing yourself differently, something interesting happens. You start carrying yourself differently too.
Perhaps your shoulders sit a little further back. You stop automatically hiding from the camera. You speak about your body with a little more kindness. You notice qualities in yourself that you've spent years overlooking.
And afterwards, the photographs become a visible reminder of that woman.
Imagine walking past an image in your home that isn't another photograph of everybody you love.
It's you.
Not 20 years ago.
You, right now, unapologetically taking up space in your own story.
5. So, why does prioritising yourself actually feel so good?
There is a psychological and biological reason that doing things purely because you enjoy them can feel so refreshing.
Our brains have systems associated with reward, motivation and pleasure. Dopamine, for example, plays an important role in motivation and reward. When we anticipate or experience something rewarding, these systems help reinforce the behaviour and encourage us to seek meaningful, enjoyable experiences again.
But there is another important piece of the puzzle: autonomy.
Autonomy is our sense that we're making choices because we want to make them.
After years where so many decisions may have revolved around responsibilities, routines and other people's needs, choosing something entirely for yourself can feel incredibly freeing.
You're making a decision based on curiosity, enjoyment and personal fulfilment rather than obligation.
Then there's confidence.
Every time you do something slightly outside your comfort zone and discover, actually, I can do this, you're giving yourself new evidence about who you are.
That matters because confidence isn't necessarily something we either have or don't have. It can be strengthened through experiences.
You try something.
You surprise yourself.
You feel proud.
And gradually, the story you tell yourself begins to change.
This chapter gets to have your name on it
You've spent years creating memories for everybody else. You've celebrated their milestones, photographed their achievements, decorated your walls with their faces and made sure they knew how loved they were.
Perhaps now it's time to extend some of that attention towards yourself.
Book the trip.
Wear the outfit.
Start the hobby.
Go somewhere you've always wanted to go.
Have the photographs taken.
Say yes simply because you want to.
